Floor & Decor, Charlotte, NC

About this Project

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Client: SITE Centers
Size: 74,000 square feet
Architects: Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc.
Challenges: weather delays and unforeseen rock

Builtech was engaged by SITE to assist them with the improvement of their Carolina Pavilion in Charlotte, North Carolina — a 852,826 square foot retail property that serves the growing southern Charlotte suburb of Pineville, and is the market’s dominant regional power center. Builtech was engaged to demo an existing two-story Kohl department store to make room for a 74,000 square foot Floor & Décor. The increased footprint for F&D required extensive site work to raise the grade for the pad and the adjacent parking lot. The larger footprint also required the complex re-work of existing site utilities and retaining walls. The existing storm sewer was 25 feet below grade and was directly adjacent to a retaining wall. To compound the challenge, the re-route of the 48-inch sewer required the blasting of a rock ledge. To compound even further, this was all completed in the rainiest Spring in Charlotte in history. Through collaboration, creativity and flexibility, the project delivered on time.

“Through the struggles of weather delays, blasting of unforeseen rock, and a condensed schedule, Builtech remained a committed,
reliable, and honest contractor on this project. They were instrumental in overcoming the challenges this project was faced with.”
